So you’re thinking about planning your next trip but feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Don’t worry, I’m here to share some helpful tips that will make your planning stress-free. In no time, you’ll be catching flights, not headaches.
#1. Check the Weather
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been to places where the weather didn’t quite cooperate with my travel plans. Despite that, the trip still turned out amazing! But hey, imagine how much better it could have been if I had planned ahead! Check the forecast. The climate of your chosen destination is crucial as it significantly impacts your enjoyment. It’s like packing an umbrella before the storm hits except you’ll be sipping margaritas poolside, not stuck inside your hotel scrolling on your phone.
#2. Make a Bucket List
Make a list of the places you want to go. Whether you’re chasing summer rays or winter wonderlands, plan activities accordingly. Keep in mind that different places experience varying seasons throughout the year. So, ensure that you plan your trip at a time when you can enjoy the activities you want to do. No one wants to hit Puerto Rico during a hurricane, unless your idea of fun is a wet T-shirt contest with Mother Nature.
#3. Airport
Bigger airports mean better deals and more flight options. SAYYY WHAAAAA… Find the international airport closest to your destination. Flights are usually cheaper from larger airports that have frequent flights, so opting for a bigger airport might save you some serious moolah!
Now, if you choose a hotel stay, they may offer pick-up and drop-off services from the airport to the hotel. If you’ve booked an Airbnb or similar accommodation, you’ll likely need to arrange your own transportation to your destination. Taxis, ride-shares, or local transport options are typically your best bet in such cases.
#4. Research Research Research!
Google is your new BFF. Scope out hotspots, restaurant, reservations, and bookmark must-see attractions before you go. My top tip is to create a Google folder with all the locations and places you want to explore. I swear by Google Maps because it works everywhere and saves every single spot I’ve pinned. It’s like having my own personal Viking navigating the modern world, helping me find what’s nearby and reminding me of all the cool places I’ve planned to visit. Trust me, when you’re buzzing with excitement at your destination, this level of planning will transform your trip into a seamless adventure!
#5. Pack Like a Boss
When you’ve got an idea of where you’re headed, what the weather’s up to, and the adventures you’ve got lined up….it’s time to pack. If you’re a picture-taking aficionado like meeee, think about blending your outfits with the local scenery. Personally, I like to bring versatile pieces that can mix and match, so my outfits always feel fresh and new. AND if you haven’t already, consider starting your own capsule wardrobe!!! It’s a game changer!
#6. Shoes
I know you’re dying to rock those fabulous shoes, but remember, comfort is key unless you want to end up with blisters! Let’s face it, you’ve invested a lot of money and time to get there, so you want to make the most of it. Pack comfy sneakers for city strolls and beachside flip-flops for that perfect sandy selfie. Your feet will thank you when you’re dancing through the night, not limping to the nearest chair.
#7. Phone Data
So, your phone might fancy a trip abroad too, but be very careful! Some cell phone plans let you use your phone in other countries, but it comes at a cost! Before you go, check with your cell phone provider and ask about those sneaky roaming fees. Sometimes, it might just be cheaper to buy a local SIM instead. Trust me, the last thing you want is to return home to an 800-dollar phone bill because you forgot to check your plan’s roaming rates.
There you have it, the 7 tips to plan your trip like a boss.
