What is Contiki?
Contiki? It’s like the ultimate travel for 18-35 year-olds! They’ve got everything from sun soaked beaches to bustling cities all over the world. And hey, forget about stressing over where to crash or how to get around. Contiki’s got your back with their comfy “coaches” (aka fancy buses). They’ll whisk you from one adventure to the next while you sit back and relax.
#1 Pack Smart
You’ll be on the move frequently, which means your suitcase will become your MOST constant companion. Pack only the essentials and avoid unnecessary items. For shorter stays, like two-night stops during a discovery tour, pack minimally to travel more comfortably.
#2 Travel Must-Haves
Since you’ll be sharing rooms unless you opt for a private upgrade, there won’t be time to air dry. Simply pack a towel to ensure comfort throughout your journey.

Bring an international charging block. You will be using your phone a lot. FOR EVERYTHING.

Bring along a small backpack or a trusty fanny pack—it’ll be your go-to for carrying all your essentials wherever you go. It’s crucial to keep your important items close at hand at all times. From personal experience, I highly recommend having a fanny pack as my constant companion—it was my night-time cuddle buddy!

ohhhh! and less is more. I took a bar of shampoo instead of liquid shampoo and it was the best decision ever. Try to take less liquids as possible. When you are packing and re-packing so often it can spill and leak on your clothes.

#3 Prepare for Off-Days
Contiki moves at lightning speed, sooooooo expect some tired days. Don’t push yourself too hard….rest when you need it, especially on longer trips.
Pro tip: Catch some Z’s on the bus!
#4 Types of Contiki Trips
Contiki caters to all kinds of travelers with a range of trip styles and accommodations. Whether you prefer fast-paced adventures or laid-back journeys, there’s something for everyone. For instance, my 23-day Contiki trip was high-energy, with most nights spent in hostels and room-sharing with three to five fellow travelers. Choose wisely to make the most of your Contiki experience.
#5 Get Ready, Set, GOOO!
Contiki takes care of all your accommodations in advance and provides an open itinerary with basic local history upon arrival to each location. You’ll have days to roam freely and explore on your own. On other days, choose from optional activities or join planned group adventures for a well-rounded experience with your new Contiki mates!
#6 Prepare to Expand Your Social Circle!
On Contiki trips, you’ll travel with a group of 20-40 fellow adventurers, creating ample opportunities to meet people from all over the world. Don’t stress if you don’t remember everyone’s names on the first day friendships will naturally develop as you journey together.
#7 Prepare to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Get ready to leave your comfort zone, because on a Contiki trip, roomies might be part of the adventure. You’ll likely be bunking with new pals from around the globe, so get ready for a crash course in international friendships. Sure, some nights might feel a bit like a game of ‘Who’s snoring louder?’ but hey, it’s all part of the experience. After all, who needs sleep when you’re making memories with the coolest international squad?
#8 Extra Cash Is a Must!
There’s always something to explore and experience. Be sure to stash some extra cash for spontaneous drinks with your Contiki friends, getting that trendy friendship bracelet everyone’s rocking, or indulging in an extra scoop of gelato—because why not?
And don’t forget about our awesome trip managers who’ve been with us every step of the way. Show your appreciation with a little something at the end of our journey. They’ve juggled a lot to make this trip awesome, so consider leaving around $3-$5 per person per day…..it goes a long way in recognizing their hard work!
#9 Optional Add-Ons Await!
Contiki will have additional tours and activities that will be optional. I recommend having a budget for them. They usually range from $20-$200 depending on the activity. Personally, I couldn’t resist soaring over the Swiss Alps on a paragliding adventure or kicking back with the Contiki crew for a legendary night out. Trust me, these are memories you won’t want to miss.
Conclusion:
Alrightyyyy that wraps up our crash course on all things Contiki! Remember, dress comfy, keep that extra cash handy for gelato emergencies, and prepare to make friends from every corner of the world. Ready to dive into the adventure?
Travel smart, live inspired!
