Oh, soooooooo you’re thinking about visiting the magnificent city of Chicago with its towering skyscrapers, impressive stony architecture, and amazing attractions? Depending on the kind of adventure you’re up for, here are a few places I highly recommend checking out while you’re there.
#1: Millennium Park
Of course, everyone must check out the iconic Millennium Park. It’s where you’ll find “The Big Bean,” surrounded by beautiful gardens and captivating outdoor installations that are a must see. Don’t forget to snap a picture right in the middle of the park with the street view behind you.
#2: Navy Pier
I highly recommend checking out Navy Pier. It’s not just a spot for amazing restaurants, rides, and shops, but also where you can take a boat tour to explore Chicago’s architecture along the river.
#3: The Art Institute
The Art Institute is an absolute must! You could easily spend an entire day immersed in its impressive collection. I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of one of Van Gogh’s famous artworks there – definitely worth the visit!
#4: The Riverwalk
Another must-see is the Riverwalk. Stroll alongside the river, where you can catch a stunning sunset. For early birds, it’s perfect for grabbing coffee or breakfast at one of the riverside restaurants.
#5: Speakeasies
Chicago is known for its many speakeasies, so while you’re there, you should definitely check out at least one.
Check out this cool speakeasy called The Bassment! Once you find it, make sure you get yourself a rubber duck floating in a tub drink. This place is located directly beneath The Hampton Social, you enter through the secret door on the right and are guided downstairs. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a casual drink or have a wild night out, The Bassment is open late and offers the perfect setting to dance or listen to live music.
#6: Fancy Eats
Feeling fancy or celebrating something special? You absolutely must visit Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf! They not only serve amazing cocktails but also dish out the best steak I’ve ever tasted. And don’t miss their truffle mac & cheese—it’s a perfect match for the steak. While it’s a bit on the pricey side, every bite is worth the splurge. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
#7 Wrigley Field
If you have some time and want to dive into a bit of history, don’t miss Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs. This iconic baseball field is one of the oldest in the game. Catch a Cubs game while you’re there—it’s an experience you won’t forget!
#8 Willis Tower
The Willis Tower, also known as the Sears Tower, boasts the highest public viewing area in the United States. Whether you visit during the day or at night, the views are breathtaking. The elevator ride to the 103rd floor takes just 90 seconds, but be sure to have some gum with you—the change in altitude might make your ears pop!
So there you have it—a bucket list of places you simply can’t miss while you’re in Chicago.
